Maria Hammond
Material Blender, Mender
Where The Light Gets In uses ceramics made by local artists and the staff themselves. Breakage over the last 3 years has been low, but their serving plates and bowls are dear to them and hold a lot of personal value. Maria has used different processes such as weaving, and kintsugi (golden lacquer repair) to repair and embellish the broken ceramics, giving them a new life.
Maria has created a series of creative responses to breakage, responding to each individual broken item.
Pieces can be seen in use again at Where The Light Gets In and on their exhibition shelves.

“Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That’s how the light gets in.”
Leonard Cohen
